JAD Rebrand

Approached by group founder John Godfrey of NetGain Marketing Ltd, I was commissioned to deliver a new corporate identity with supporting brand guidelines, accompanied by a ground-up website and app design with integrated e-commerce solution and online marketing strategy for Just-a-Drop Brands — “Europe’s Leading Supplier of Promotional Branded Drinks, Drinkware, Sweets, Snacks & Confectionery”.

Within an ever-evolving digital landscape, promotional merchandise and its apparent commonly misconceived limited shelf-life had become an increasingly distant option for marketing professionals. It was clear Just-a-Drop brands needed its products to work harder for customers; to this end I highlighted the shortfall and selected several leading gamification partners to assist in delivering measurable meaningful experiences. Customers now select the desired “SmartMerch” interactive campaign for their desired product at checkout (eg. a branded game with leaderboard), where a unique QR code is system generated and linked to an online competition with unique Terms & Conditions applied, respectively by country.

Established in 2013, JAD help clients increase brand-awareness with innovative, cost-effective campaigns while now delivering these all important measurable results. NetGain Marketing clients include ITV, Guinness, Bing, GSK, Vodafone, Network Rail, Cartoon Network and numerous other big brands.

Whilst engaged in a ZOOM call with the group founder I noticed a third party sporadically joining the conversation and it soon transpired this was Bubbles, an African Grey parrot. With no escape for this much loved family pet I soon illustrated, animated and reincarnated Bubbles a fitting mascot / virtual assistant. What’s more, customers are now rewarded with their very own Bubbles soft toy as part of series of JAD promotional incentives — We also brought Bubbles to life with a battery powered voice box, sporting some of his favourite things to say.

1991 NSX Restoration

…and now for something completely different: Classic cars have been a longstanding passion of mine and more so their considerate restoration, with an approach I describe as “build it better”.

Over a period of two years (evenings and weekends), this somewhat tired 1991 JDM Honda NSX was fully rebuilt and transformed from an automatic transmission to a five-speed manual. The car also underwent a bare metal respray and benefited from a 2002 facelift, from popups to fixed LED head and taillights. Other modifications included an airlift system, bespoke carbon mouldings and a full ALB to ABS upgrade; all requiring a vast amount of research and development.

The Appeal:

It was the first true Japanese supercar, Ayrton Senna was involved in the development, the styling was inspired by an F16 fighter jet and it was beloved of Gordon Murray. The list of legendary facts about the NSX is as long as your arm, and rightly so. First revealed at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, it was a staggering achievement for a mainstream car manufacturer – producing a car that sucker-punched the Italian supercar elite and set a new standard for how such vehicles should drive.

Needless to say, they are still revered today, with good examples much sought after and highly prized by collectors. With that smooth, early 90s styling, mid-engined layout, rev-hungry VTEC V6 and fabled agility, they still offer a compelling and rewarding driving experience to back up the myth.

cinch UX for ITV

Under recommendation I was approached by Umbrella Promotional Risk Management Ltd, to transform the campaign effectiveness of an e-commerce automotive sector client, Constellation Automotive Group; delivering a new UX strategy and design assets for cinch.co.uk

The Challenge:

Cinch had an urgent deadline before their sponsorship deal with ITV went live on the primetime TV (Sat 12 Feb 2022), the programme was a music show called ‘STARSTRUCK’, presented by Olly Murs.

Rather than unifying content, the existing cinch presents site displayed two very individual reference points — partners & competitions, with a primary focus on partners. Although a roster of big brand partners instills credibility and confidence at top-level, it was not the main hook for prospective consumers. It was clear cinch marketing drivers were poised to deliver footfall via targeted campaigns by category / interest; so it was important to ensure digital markers prequalified the content upon which users would land, all within a very tight timeframe with many key stakeholders to bring together.

The Solution:

The cross-sell of other products and services were to remain secondary and displayed as such, using less real-estate on cinch presents to maximise the chance of users following through with the initial CTA. For example, it makes sense that a visitor engaged by the TV show Starstruck will be stimulated by music, therefore The British Motor Show should remain secondary to The Summer of Music. People entering competitions and prize draws are more likely to engage with cinch through ‘fear of missing out’ and creating some urgency. If one were to look at the incredibly successful BOTB “win your dream car competition” there was an abundance of winner case studies within immediate sight, which gave the whole offering soul and ultimately breeds consumer confidence.

A countdown timer against each draw incentivised entrants and helped generate a much stronger conversion, this coupled with incremental e-shots displaying the competition deadline helped reignite interest for those that dropped off (once signed-up to a dedicated app etc.). The inclusion of smart objectives and tools; such as an ability to add an event and competition dates to a user’s calendar, cinch engaged its audience that much deeper with relevant forthcoming experiences. A user was then allowed to add sponsored cinch events and competitions automatically to their calendar, by category further benefitting from automatic entry to draws, without having to re-enter their details when fully signed up; opening the door for affiliate marketing and vendor ticket sales.

Cinch are in the business of selling cars, however we they capitalised on the car users love of music, gauging individual interests through site use and more strictly within profile settings once / if logged-in; under regulatory constraints including GDPR, DPA and so on across personal information held and passed on to third parties alike.

Additional reach was achieved when suggesting entrants invite-a-friend, which also doubled their chance of a winning the ITV Starstruck competition.

The Benefits:

Constellation Automotive Group and cinch enjoyed an unprecedented level of prospective consumer engagement across its digital platforms, resulting in a dramatic uptake of subscriber contact information being placed not seen before.

VQS Showreel

Having worked with the CFO and joint founder of Valcomm (VQS) on a highly successful digital brief for their family business previously; I was approached a second time to produce a slick, engaging and informative promotional showreel as part of an extended company rebrand exercise.

The rebranding exercise also comprised of a new company logo, an editorial based website where staff prepare new stories for SMT sign-off / publishing and a secure client portal area to manage highly sensitive pharmaceutical related certification under UKAS ISO 17025 governance.

Valcomm (VQS) is a UKAS accredited calibration laboratory, providing national traceable calibrations to ISO 17025-2017, both on and off-site. VQS work extensively alongside some of the most respected companies in the UK and across a wide range of pharmaceutical, life sciences, chemical, rail and aerospace industries.

 From Sierra Leone to The Nordics

A spellbinding track titled My Tears Are Becoming a Sea was chosen from the critically acclaimed album HurryUp, We’reDeaming, produced by the band M83. The opening lyrics helped tell the story of just how far away help can seem to be, especially for those suffering in third-world countries with devastating viruses including Ebola.

The short movie helped showcase the sensitive nature of research, manufacture, safe storage, and pharmaceutical related cold-chain distribution, under strict regulatory compliance supporting the Life Sciences industry.

Carrot Exchange Launch

Employee rewards without the kerfuffle.

Approached by Torstein Sørlid (Founder & CTO) & Dan Wellsted (Product Manager) of www.digitalfibre.co.uk, I was commissioned with the task of creating a vibrant showreel to promote their new business CARROT EXCHANGE, an all-new employee incentive / rewards platform.

Having worked previously with both Torstein, Dan and their extended dev. team building the Lender Sourcing System www.easysource.co.uk for client Brightstar Ltd. we were able to hit-the-ground-running across multilayered projects for CARROT EXCHANGE, including the icing-on-the-cake; showing it all off with a fun and informative teaser video.

Carrot Exchange have been in the employee space for quite a while so they know what it takes to keep a clients employees happy; and historically this has been time and money with a sprinkling of patience.

Team C-Ex looked at this and decided that it was a poor equation.

“Time is precious”.
”Patience is overrated”.
…and scariest of all “money is often spent badly”.

This is why Team C-Ex produced a self service rewards platform to make client and employee's lives easy.

A deep-dive into creating the UK’s leading sourcing system, from day one 01-05-2015.

EasySource went live on the 1st of June after two years in development including extensive testing with Brightstar stakeholders. The key objective was to make it easy for intermediaries to quickly search for specialist finance solutions, whilst removing the uncertainty of how best to finance their clients’ individual circumstances. Brightstar also wanted to replace their antiquated paper-based enquiry process with an online submission portal and a state-of-the-art case tracking facility. The result is a ground breaking specialist sourcing and case management system, which makes it easy to identify the most appropriate solution from a diverse range of lenders across one or more product categories, including:

• SECOND CHARGE MORTGAGES J BRIDGING FINANCE

HOW DOES IT WORK IN PRACTICE?

EasySource compares the obvious capital raising re-mortgage versus a second charge mortgage where the intermediary can compare results side by side with an overall cost comparison column. What is unique about EasySource is that the system takes into account, details of the clients’ existing mortgage rate, monthly payment and remaining term plus any early repayment charges and fees for a more accurate comparison. EasySource can also be used to compare different approaches for the same case. For example, a client may wish to carry out modernisation works to increase the value prior to sale, or re-finance onto a better mortgage rate. It could be that they want to compare a re-mortgage with a second charge for a direct cost comparison and without re-keying. EasySource enables intermediaries to look at a short term finance solution, offering the client faster turnaround times with no requirement to service the loan until the point of re-finance or re-sale.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SUBMIT AN ENQUIRY?

The submission of an enquiry takes just 90 seconds to complete with instant access to a list of available products, a plethora of filters and features including a downloadable evidence of research document. The enquiry can then be converted to PDF and export- ed to the intermediary’s own client file. Upon submission of an enquiry, our team of experts will contact the intermediary to discuss the options available in more detail, including any potential to negotiate a bespoke rate.

MORE THAN JUST A SOURCING SYSTEM

EasySource is so much more than “just” a sourcing system however, it also includes a number of features to make intermediaries lives so much easier. Research revealed Brightstar intermediaries wanted greater visibility on the progress of their case so we responded by creating a platform offering access to a ‘breadcrumb trail’ from sourcing to completion, 24/7, displaying the client requirements list, full case notes, messages and milestones achieved to date.

There is a two-way messaging system, offering direct access to our dedicated case management team; correspondence is copied directly to the users’ own mailbox and archived to the client file. Automatic notifications are sent to both the intermediary and dedicated case manager, summarising changes to the client file including stage changes, milestone updates and documentation; additionally, a weekly summary of their live pipeline, with the number of outstanding items for each case.

INSTANT UPLOADS & DOWNLOADS

Intermediaries can access key documents such as the lender offer and valuation report and view the tailored list of information required by the chosen lender, including the ability to upload and download documents into and from their own system.

A CLEAR AUDIT TRAIL

EasySource will record every key stroke, providing a full audit trail should there ever be a requirement to review the client file.

REWARDS

EasySource will also provide intermediaries with rewards for feed- back and engagement by driving knowledge of specialist finance, helping to achieve positive client outcomes. The more an intermediary learns, the more they will earn, with the opportunity to spend their rewards instantly, or save for something bigger from a huge catalogue of retail gift vouchers, experiences and some of the latest gadgets.

Lottery Funded KS3 Game

Inspired by the George Marshall Medical Museum and The Infirmary Museum as part of the Worcestershire World War One Hundred project. An innovative game of probability and chance, the World War One Casualty Clearing Station Board Game launched in Worcester.

Pupils from Tudor Grange Academy Worcester helped launch the World War One Casualty Clearing Station Board Game on 16 July 2015, an innovative education resource created by the teams at the George Marshall Medical Museum and The Infirmary Museum as part of the Worcestershire World War One Hundred project.

Designed for secondary school mathematics pupils, the board game is one of probability and chance which sees the player take on the role of a First World War Medical Officer making decisions, dependent on condition, about the fate of injured soldiers sent to a casualty clearing station during the First World War.

In 1916, 734,000 men were wounded and evacuated from casualty clearing stations by a range of means such as trains and barges. As the war progressed and treatment of regiments became more sophisticated and refined, the casualty clearing station became more self-contained treatment centres carrying out amputations and treatment of bullet trauma wounds. Casualty clearing stations revolutionised the surgery of World War One and made a significant contribution to the outcome of the War.

Louise Price, George Marshall Medical Museum said: “After the Battle of Ypres, the British Army realised that too many injured soldiers were dying; they were simply not arriving at hospital in time. First Responders were needed and casualty clearing stations were set up about 5 miles from the Front. With this innovative board game, we can now engage all Key Stage 3 students, not just those taking a History course, with the importance of the casualty evacuation chain, and properly commemorate the work done by the Medical Officers in the Royal Army Medical Corps.

“Based upon the museums’ collections of Lt. Col. Goddard, a Medical Officer during both the Boer War and the First World War, students will apply their knowledge of probability and percentages to find the best course of action for each injured soldier. Should they return to the Front? Or should they go to a Base Hospital for further treatment? In playing the board game, students will use their skills to engage with both History and Mathematics in a fun and informative way.”

Dr Adrian Gregson, Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service said: “As part of the Worcestershire World War One Hundred programme Worcester’s two medical museums, the George Marshall Medical Museum and The Infirmary Museum have taken a completely innovative approach to interpreting World War One’s medical history creating a fantastic mathematics resource. Background:

Handed a sheet of A4 with a ‘Big Idea’, Travis was subsequently commissioned to scope and kick-start what would transpire to be the early stages of a true innovation within UK music industry.

Travis orchestrated an entire pitch process ultimately leading to an initial investment of £190,000.00 GBP when seeking approval from a panel of highly accomplished angel investors.  The early seed-funding stage presented its own challenges, some of which were overcome by research into recent Government incentives such as UKTI (UK Trade & Investments) and SEIS (The Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme) designed to help small, early-stage companies raise equity finance by offering tax relief to individual investors who purchase new shares in those companies.

The Challenge:

The client being relatively inexperienced with digital integration and the overall awareness of widespread competition, initially requested the music app be created to enable music lovers to share their playlists socially.  Given further research into existing applications in a highly competitive global market, it was soon concluded the idea wasn’t entirely new.

The Solution:

Due to the huge administrative and legal fees involved with signed artists, the concept was reworked to facilitate unsigned artists who were literally crying out for a new way to get noticed over and above domineering record labels, achieve financial support and market themselves through a dedicated professional network.

Crucially, in The Musicians Union's estimation there are currently circa 600,000 serious musicians striving for success in the UK alone.  By tapping into this clear and present need, the reworked strategy for MeWe Music is not only within reach of facilitating this demand, it presents an entirely credible case for making its investors a great return.

The Challenge:

The SAS™ Expert Channel representatives commissioned Travis and his development team associates to replace the existing infrastructure on their intranet video information system, formerly operating on very basic WIX™ software.  The SAS™ Expert Channel contains an extensive library of resource media, where members can access and view videos about SAS™ software, within a secure environment.

The Solution:

Travis set about designing a 'BBC™ iPlayer® style' environment to engage SAS™ Professionals account holders, automate content relevance to specific user groups and maximise the viewer's overall experience across this relatively unexplored, yet invaluable resource.  SAS™ were seeking an interface that would enable them to easily to maintain and update all content hosted to the new system.

Background:

YUM YUM Creative Solutions™ are an established full brand communications agency servicing an extensive client base, with a particular competency in facilitating the pharmaceuticals sector.
Travis was commissioned to completely rethink the businesses most prized of assets, their company website; clearly residing in an increasingly competitive environment.
To this end, being invited to produce the website of a credible creative agency is both compliment and honour combined.  Other responsibilities included the management of this project right through to the development process, including browser testing and quality assurance.

The Challenge:

To maintain a healthy interest from the likes of new and existing clients, including aspiring pharma giants such as Johnson & Johnson®, the site’s reinvention faced a number of obstacles, for which only a considered approach would do.

The Solution:

Concise and to-the-point copywriting, with clearly defined cases studies that did not breach the bounds of client privacy.

The clever use of responsive web layouts and development practices, to ensure an efficient uncluttered environment for the agency to showcase its expertise across a range of devices and web browsers.

There’s nothing quite like free advertising and getting people talking through innovation; a social stance would be endorsed to capacitate this directive with the use of social integration, RSS feeds, subscriber accounts and the YUM YUM blog spot.
All you can eat!  The modern day visitor will soon lose interest in a website if not able to pinpoint information relevant to their needs within just a few seconds, so a ‘tabloid style’ drill-down on info was implemented. Nobody likes being overwhelmed with irrelevant copy, so top-level bite-sized headers and bulleted content appear on first instance, with the ability for users to read more with the simple click of a button should they wish to do so, or quickly move to the following sector.

Visually captivating; …sharp, sharp, sharp ~ without the latest parallax style flow of content, fabulous imagery and captivating design, a degree of confidence in the ability of those promising to imaginatively lead creative briefs would not be fulfilled.  This side of the project was absolutely key, as any creative agency professing to pioneer in design is under considerable pressure to realise this message in work hosted online in their name.

Background:

Johnson & Johnson™ recently acquired the brand ASP™ which specialises in the sterilisation and general maintenance of endoscopes and other lifesaving surgical equipment.  As the industry's infection prevention leader, ASP™ is focused on helping to ensure the safest possible environments for patients and their families, healthcare workers, providers and communities. 

The Challenge:

Johnson & Johnson™ were seeking an interactive experience for international ASP™ training groups.  Prior to commissioning a bespoke App, ASP™ wished to pilot the new concept across Europe and acquire valuable operational feedback from dedicated focus groups.

The Solution:

Travis deduced that an interactive PDF would be the most cost-effective solution and provide a platform fit for purpose.  After researching features and multiple licensing overheads for ASP™, the latest version of Acrobat Pro™ was purchased in-house and thoroughly tested.  Acrobat Pro™ also provided an invaluable 'cloud based portal' where all market research could be collated and shared, with respect to refining a credible application ready for the global domain.

Status:  Presently in the final stages of European testing, with base iOX development initiated

Abbots Rebrand & Automation

Background:

Abbots Cars have been established more than 25 years, making them one of the longest serving private hire companies in the county.  In addition to serving the local community, Abbots Cars also offer a full corporate service with account facilities.

The Challenge:

Mr K Jenks of Abbots village cars approached Travis to give the family business a complete overhaul. Abbots Cars (formerly known as Abbots Village Cars) had an extremely tired image and though being the longest established local private taxi service, was being challenged by a number of new startups.

As budgets were somewhat restrictive, Travis devised a plan to ingrate the company's existing booking system into a fully automated online solution. This was achieved by developing a digital interface which would communicate between Abbots Cars driver management platform 'DIPLOMAT' and the new 'Quickbook' form, based on their new website.

The Solution:

• Design new contemporary user friendly websites for Abbots Cars and Abbots VIP.

• Pages generated in HTML-5, tested and made compatible for the latest browsers.

• Online booking origination, associated integration to ‘Diplomat’ system and database.

• Bespoke contractor booking pages with secure username and login.

• SEO campaign and tactical PPC, with a primary focus on Airport drop and collect.

SUZUKI Events

Background:

Having successfully designed, managed and delivered numerous prior events; Travis was invited to tender with a view to enhancing SUZUKI's presence at the Carole Nash International Motorcycle Show, held annually at the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre.

Shortlisted from over a dozen creative agencies specialising in events and exhibitions, then progressing to the final two; the following solution was earmarked as the #1 choice for SUZUKI.

At the last moment HONDA withdrew their booking due to a deteriorating economic climate and others soon started to follow suit.  With manufacturers increasingly having no competitors to flank at the show, the event organisers offered a one-off rescue package to exhibitors, by offsetting the cost of custom built stands (over 400m2) against its floorspace fees.

Unfortunately this was a no-brainer for any overseeing financial director, particularly as the stand would be stored and reused over a three year contract.  You win some, you lose some; however great pride can be taken in being #1 choice for SUZUKI in showcasing over 100+ vehicles and the responsibility for a colossal 732m2 exhibition stand.

The Challenge:

SUZUKI GB PLC reserved space of 732m2 (30.5m x 24m) at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show, with a clear set of objectives:

• To create a hard-working and successful stand that is utilised fully throughout the 10 day event

• To display the entire motorcycle range, inc. three new models to be unveiled at the event

• To host a retail section of the stand for the parts and accessories team

• To conform to the SUZUKI brand values and corporate identity supporting “The Way of Life”

• To increase the prospect customer database through data capture

• To showcase model categories:  Street / Supersport / Scooter / Cruiser / Off-Road / ATV

• To honour and recognise the 100 Year Anniversary of SUZUKI

• Inclusions:  Japan / Innovation / Excitement / Interaction / Quality / Manga / Paddock feel

• Influence in a coherent form whilst clearly defining the bike categories

The Solution:

Ultimately it is a stand that delivers on the set objectives, communicates the brand and key messages with clarity, engages with and captivates the audience.  A fusion of ideas and influences were created to represent all that is great about SUZUKI.

The layout of the stand is focused totally on the bike categories. Each category has a 6m x 3m suspended graphic. The graphic determines the category by inclusion of a specific bike that is placed within an illustrative landscape environment.

Striking stylised graphics defining the product range and bold graphics celebrating the 100th Year of Suzuki, mixed with subtle Japanese-inspired references such as rice paper, lanterns and Japanese lettering combine to create a rich mix of influences.

The stand design incorporates two significant video displays and a video floor, added to the reveal area in the centre of the stand to display animated messaging timed for the bike reveals.  The reveal is created by a programmed motor that raises the 100 Year graphic cube.

Various designs were generated to portray the traditional styles of Manga while showing their evolution into today’s digital media; thus delivering a “Transition of Art” that best reflects the evolution of SUZUKI into a contemporary and technologically excellent brand over the last 100 years. The founders of 'Mirrors Edge' (the first person game) were consulted in respect of commissioning customised play live at the show, thus creating a competitive environment where social media would be used to share scores and promote the SUZUKI brand subconsciously.

Background:

While consecutively contributing across two key accounts for the network, Travis was invited to work with GBIN™ ‘The Global Business Information Network’ by the companies’ UK based Chief Executive Officer Gary Ling.  Commanding a modest team of highly-qualified developers on-location in Hyderabad India at the Seanergy Softech™ headquarters, Travis set about managing a complex multi-level project for the new online initiative ‘CHECKONOMICS’.

CHECKONOMICS offers quick reference to up-to-date data on global industries, set out in an easy to read online dashboard formats called Lobbies. CHECKONOMICS source, validate, collate, reference and present industry information with clarity.

The Challenge:

CHECKONOMICS required a rethink across its general identity, push-to-market and up-sale strategies; having conducted an audit across the existing site’s performance, through the close monitoring of web-stats and key performance indicators, Travis set about devising his plan to optimise the businesses online success, with a primary focus on conversion.
