cross-g Branding

Cross Graphics Limited
January 16, 2015 by Travis Hurlock

Background:

Established in June 1978, Cross Graphics Limited are international suppliers of new and used press equipment, primarily supplying specialist turnkey solutions to the newspaper industry on a grand scale.

Cross Graphics have a network of international agents and have installed literally hundreds of used web printing presses, together with a wide range of new products.

The Challenge:

The existing Cross Graphics website was ineffective across most modern web browsers and required a complete rethink from the ground up.  What’s more, the company were incurring third party servicing fees on a monthly basis and required a modern cost-effective solution where their international sales team could directly list new equipment and manage enquiries on the fly.  All supporting associated branding required bringing firmly into the 21st century and a new exciting buzz around the company engaged.

The Solution:

Client expectation VS budget across this project was particularly high.  After achieving an intrinsic vision of how the international sales team operated and deciphering ‘mission-critical’ needs against ‘nice-to-haves’, a bespoke solution was devised.

The Benefits:

  • Front & Back-end requirements processed, wireframed and agreed.

  • Enquiry delegation & management system devised for sales and senior management team.

  • Ecommerce preparation, CMS and database controls initiated.

  • Transfer of extensive existing content migrated to new platform.

  • New branding initiative including logo, strap-line and guidelines.

  • Full paper and digital stationery suite.

  • Integrated digital marketing tools and a host of promotional features inc. RSS feeds.

  • HTML indexing of products to boost external search results.

  • Secure, tiered access to privileges for staff and client accounts.

  • Integrated multi-lingual feature, via Google Translate to bolster international response.

  • Full global integration and Search Engine Optimisation campaign engaged.

  • Social integration through integral blog spot, share options, Linked-In™, Facebook™ and Twitter™.

  • Server optimisation and streaming of video through site via VIMEO™ and YouTube™.

…and much, much more!

UNITAS C2C Platform

January 16, 2015 by Travis Hurlock

Background:

Unitas™ designs, manages and funds innovative national programmes for young people at risk of social exclusion.  These programmes are implemented in schools, further education colleges and youth offending teams.

The Unitas™ Text Now® initiative is not just about improving reading but also about learning how to choose text, understanding the meaning of text and learning how to enjoy text.

In the interest of supporting this vision, Unitas™ commissioned Travis to entirely rework the existing platform My Choice™ into becoming a truly inspiring reading hub with additional functionality, fun features and supportive tools.

The Challenge:

For young people with literacy issues, reading is not a pleasure.
Using their imagination to visualise stories whilst reading does not come naturally.
Lacking a selection strategy to choose text of interest prevents them from exploring reading material.
Following stories in films, TV and through computer games are every day experiences.
The written word can be a shameful reminder of their weaknesses.
Books are not just about words ~ they are about stories too!

The Solution:

Magazine and book covers draw you in and persuade you to start that journey of discovery, page-by-page, cover-to-cover.  Visual and verbal clues on a cover help us to identify if a particular book is likely to be of interest.

Tools were devised to help young people develop skills and confidence around understanding the meaning of stories through visual and verbal clues.

An interactive creative portal titled ‘Cover-To-Cover’ was created to inspire and motivate young people to get into stories.  Users of the application are awarded credits enabling them to purchase books through the My Choice™ website. Through this and other initiatives we are able to engage and inspire young people to connect images to stories.

The Benefits:

  • Encouraging the sharing of work and generation of a friendly, yet competitive social environment amongst peers.

  • Creation of an extensive library with a range of images to appeal to young people of 12 and upwards.

  • The provision of prompts and verbal clues to guide the user, while retaining an intuitive interface that is self explanatory and easy to use unassisted.

  • Offering users an amazing opportunity to immerse themselves in the creative world of cover design.

  • An ability to share, compare and rate designs within the C2C creative community for a chance to win fantastic prizes and earn credits toward seriously cool stuff!

  • Users benefit from exclusive innovative tools geared toward harnessing their inner capacity to visualise stories and stimulate further interest.

The overall success of this appointment led to other key enhancements across the YAA scheme (Youth-Arts-Awards) and other directives driven by Unitas™, such as MyChoice Books.

igroup MB Expo

January 16, 2015 by Travis Hurlock

Background:

The corporate super-giant General Electric™ (GE™) holds numerous brands under its financial services umbrella.  For a biannual trade show event, Travis was called on to magic up a creative vision to stimulate interest around its secured lending division ‘i-group™’ with a primary focus toward expanding its network of accredited brokers.
To offer you a sense of scale and the sheer volume of business required to keep i-group’s underwriting team busy; at its peak i-group was accountable for lending in excess of £500,000,000.00 (five hundred million pounds sterling) per calendar month across its first and second charge loans business within the sub-prime market.

The Challenge:

Planning, planning, planning; from concept to execution, ensuring every last detail in build-up to the show is critical.  The event doors wait for no man and an ill prepared stand can reflect very badly on the exhibiting company indeed, so nothing less than perfect execution in the bringing together of multiple assets will do.

Measurements, system integration, logistics, construction, skilled trades and a whole host of other contributing factors all require exemplary orchestration and multiple checks at every stage; with a vast experience in the organisation and deployment of international trade shows Travis understands the number one rule in events is to never assume a single detail.

The Solution:

The detailing of key objectives and formulation of creative smart solutions to address these needs, mark the first step across a variety of project disciplines endorsed.  Keeping ideas simple improves clarity of delivery and overall campaign effectiveness; from there on-in it’s a pure case of bringing theses concepts and smart objectives to reality.

How do we generate interest?  This is where the Lamborghini Murcielago prize-draw was born; like-it-or-not, aspiring brokers hold a real passion for reward within this industry and status symbols are a real draw; so for a behind-the-scenes (B2B) trade show, a blind eye cast to political correctness within the sub-prime market was cast for this directive.  Various spinoffs were forged across material captured within a bespoke photo shoot at the prestigious Moor Park golf club; for example, rendering i-group into the engine rocker box covers and applying a strap-line ‘The Power Behind Your Team’ in bespoke Photoshop rendering; a particular skill Travis also holds.  Trade publicity and generalised marketing was timed inline with the Top Gear™ road test which was exclusively televised one week prior to the show, resulting as an extra reminder to i-group’s presence at the Mortgage Business exhibition in London. Needless to say, Travis fought particularly hard to have such a rare vehicle incorporated live at the event for GE™, tastefully branded and in exactly the right colour too. Every last detail helped achieve a heightened state of brand awareness in the marketplace for i-group™.

PR, editorial, printed media and digital advertising objectives achieved through the Lamborghini prize draw and other clever targeted ‘drip’-’drip’ marketing initiatives.

Competition entry forms gathered only at the show to incentivise attendance, to achieve the collation of invaluable pre-qualified contact information and subsequent leads of quality.

Design of the exhibition stand to maximise footfall, exposure and an overall sense of aspiration.
Commissioning of all aspects from securing the first UK based Murcielago to promotional merchandise.
Lighting design, audio-visual display and digital data capture tied to response marketing.
Sponsorship of the Mortgage Business Expo after party.
…and much, much more!

The Benefits:

  • Huge exposure for the company.

  • Sales & Marketing Director Jonathan Sadler to announce prize draw winner via trade press.

  • In excess of 500 quality new business leads captured per day.

  • In excess of 1900 new pre-qualified contacts made per day.

  • Debrief resulting in best practice, effective use of leads and data captured.

  • Assets stored, archived, reworked and optimised future shows.

  • Enjoying a mass increase in footfall, Travis achieved a £7,000.00 discount on floor space from event organisers as a direct result in the success of this campaign.

  • Travis also achieved a £10,000.00 discount from manufacturers of the exhibition stand materials across the London and Manchester trade shows for i-group™.

How do we top this?  For the following show, Travis set about visiting the London Boat show to secure free delivery of a high-end yacht, to be sailed from the Côte d’Azur to London docklands, crane lifted and escorted by Metropolitan Police through the streets of London to the Earls Court exhibition centre.
There’s no greater presence than holding a VIP reception on top of a 32ft Sunseeker™, while overlooking the entire UK Mortgage Industry.  In negotiation, Travis secured the use of this vessel purely upon the fact that Sunseeker™ would enjoy the company of more high-net-worth individuals per square foot, than any related London marine trade show.  The prize; a two-week all expenses paid yacht charter with chef, fuel and mooring.

With multiple SMT nominations for ‘Employee-of-the-year’ Travis has worked numerous briefs across the i-group and First National brands for the international giant GE® within their consumer finance division GE Money™. This operation consisted of a workforce in excess of 1000 staff.

ECITB Android & iOS Game

January 14, 2015 by Travis Hurlock

Background:

ECITB™ The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board provides professional advice, information, skills development and qualifications to help individuals within engineering construction succeed in their chosen careers.  Working closely with industry employers, their training programmes and Vocational Qualifications guarantee competence in practical craft and technician occupations as well as the technical, management supervisory, design and project management skills.

ECITB™ were looking for an effective way to attract and engage school children in engineering construction based curricular development, from circa eleven to fifteen years of age.

The Challenge:

ECITB™ exhibit at the 'BIG-BANG FAIR' every year and were seeking an innovative strategy to raise and promote interest at the event.  The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair is the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths for young people in the UK and takes place annually in March.

The Solution:

As the event strives to inspire future scientists and engineers through exciting hands-on activities and interactive exhibits, Travis quickly concluded that nothing other than an exciting new game, based around a journey through engineering construction would do.

Users of the game would quickly be made aware of the advantages engineering construction can bring to themselves as individuals and the global population.  More crucially, the end result had to be both fun and mentally stimulating, with key educational facts illustrating the advantages of engineering construction throughout.

Travis brought together a team of Illustrators, Web and iOS Developers to bring this project to fruition, while personally orchestrating creative direction and furthermore, storyboarding the entire game play strategy.  A micro site and the following mini games were produced to fulfil this brief for ECITB and its partners:

  • Oil & Gas — 'Pipefitting'

  • Nuclear — 'Decommissioning'

  • Renewable Energy — 'Power The Grid'

  • Engineering Construction — 'Steel Infrastructure'

The Benefits:

  • Career and educational opportunities within the game

  • Access to further information via the ECITB™ Engineering Construction website

  • Social media integration for extended reach, with a competitive environment / leader board

  • Multi sector mini games to support and stimulate a range of individual interest(s)

  • QR Code integration; scan and download the game via iTunes™ & Android™ stores

HSI Office Refurb

January 13, 2015 by Travis Hurlock

Background:

Hill Street Investments (...with a primary focus in oil exploration) commissioned Travis to create a smart new workplace, to portray efficiency and a professional, streamlined organisation fit for investment and subsequent business opportunity.

The Challenge:

Day-to-day operations demand intensive use of the company boardroom, with a further requirement for branch-off workgroups.  HSI™ have a number of in-house professionals who work under their own merit, demanding a more individual work environment and room to spread out.

The Solution:

Great care has been taken to ensure HSI™ can create a more fluid office experience, from an attractive new entrance hall and waiting area leading to reception, the boardroom and so on.  This is also complemented by an ability to keep meeting areas separate, for example; the new conferencing room is also accessible by a second entrance located to the left upon arrival.

By knocking through the current retaining kitchen wall, we freed-up valuable space for additional work stations, located within a new online conferencing area.  The kitchen area has been relocated within reach of necessary amenities, keeping disruption and associated costs to a minimum.

Visiting contractors who work under their own merit have been catered for in a new ‘Internet Cafe / Bar’ themed hot-desking area.

The Benefits:

  • Efficient use of floorspace across reception, workstations, meeting rooms, catering and hot-desking

  • Tech room with large format, multipoint video conferencing system

  • Quality Assurance / Building Regulation / Risk / Scheduling / Logistics / Insurance / Due diligence

  • Breakdown:  Materials / Skilled trades /  Fire systems / Electrics / Security / Plumbing / Joinery etc.

  • A bright modern and inspirational new working environment laced with technology
